Agile Wallaby(Macropus agilis)
This
pretty wallaby is native to Northern Australia as well as Indonesia and New
Guinea. They are one of the largest wallaby species. Also called the River Sand Wallaby because their habitat
usually includes sandy river banks. They are flighty (quick to move) and acquired their name from their quick and agile
movements of leaping and hopping thru muddy, swampy areas with little problem. Their coloring is a light sandy brown,
with distinctive white stripes on their facial cheeks and thighs. Males will grow to twice the size of females, with a
strong, muscular build.
The Kangaroo Conservation Center is proud to be one of the few zoological parks
outside Australia that exhibits this species (over 40 in our collection.)
(Note: A wallaby is a small to medium species of kangaroo, and there are dozens
of different wallaby species.)
